MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

           The Mechanical Engineering Department of this institution is committed to a learner centered environment in which everyone learns, discovers and enriches themselves, the society and the nation. The department provides an eight semester program, leading to B.Tech degree that gives students an opportunity to prepare for professional engineering practise or for entry into higher programs of study. This undergraduate program is based on a foundation of mathematics, basic and applied science, engineering science and mechanical engineering fundamentals.

           Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data is one of the fundamental skills to be developed during an undergraduate study. Our labs and workshops are well equipped to conduct experiments on transformation of thermal energy, the mechanics of its transmission and the production process.

           The department’s future goals include developing graduate programs and innovative, relevant engineering research program in various emerging fields of mechanical engineering.

           We have a dynamic faculty dedicated to excellence in teaching and research always ready to guide and advice students by providing individual academic counselling and prompting discourse among students, faculty and other engineering professionals. To function in a multi disciplinary team, working to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems, one’s ability to communicate effectively is of prime importance. ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION

           This department with its dedicated members of faculty offers UG programmes in Electronics and Communication Engineering, covering all aspects with the required emphasis on network theory, digital signal processing, solid state electronics, digital electronics, switching circuits, microprocessor and interfacing, information theory and space communication. The members of the faculty are well qualified with ISTE training and specialization in different fields of electronics.

           The department holds technical discussion and project seminars regularly. The department is equipped with adequate facilities such as computer terminals, overhead projectors, LCD projectors etc.

           The department has full-fledged electronics laboratory and electronics workshop to confirm to the requirements of the curriculum. The electronics laboratory is well equipped with sufficient number of CROs, function generators, power suppliers and various testing and measuring instruments. The practical work is supervised and supported by well-qualified and experienced staff.

ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS

           Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in SHM Engineering College is functioning with a motto to create technical and scientific professionals, who can make revolutionary advances in the field.

           The department is a rebust body headed by professor retired from Govt. College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram, and having well equipped modern laboratories in Electrical machines, Basic electronics and Electrical and electronics workshop to carry out experiments.

Well qualified members of staff having sufficient experiences are handling the classes there by enabling the students to acquire the current developments in the emerging areas in electrical engineering. COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

           This is one of the most prestigious courses offered by this institution with an average intake of 60 students per year. The course covers most of the advanced topics in computer hardware and software. This will enable the student to get a thorough concept of the theory and design of computer architecture, networks, communication etc. The course provides faculty to do experiments on software and computer hardware in order to gain a strong background of the engineering technologies in computer communication and network. The curriculum offers to develop the programming skills of the students from the very basic level to a professional level to the emerging challenges of the present software development in industries. Projects are also included in the final semesters to get a hand on experience with highly skilled professionals of the industry.

           The computer center of this institution is fully furnished and well-equipped wit latest computers and other peripherals. The center also has sufficient number of supporting staff to assist the students as and when required. The center also has 60 nodes with latest Pentium processors in which 30 nodes are connected to another server using windows. NT. The center is equipped with sufficient number of required peripherals like Dot matrix printers, inkjet printers, scanners, Web cam etc. Internet connection is also available for the easy and fast access to the Web World.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

           The 4-year B.Tech Information technology degree courses that we offer are being framed in order to keep abreast with rapidly changing technologies. The department is well equipped with a modern laboratory, which satisfy the current requirement as well as the future needs in the field of Information Technology.
